A Fantastic Woman (2017, 100 minutes) won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film after winning Berlin’s International Film Festival Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. The story revolves around Marina, a transgender waitress and aspiring singer, after her partner Orlando dies suddenly. Once Marina’s transgender identity comes to light, she is barred from his funeral and not allowed any role in the grieving process of Orlando’s family or friends. His son threatens to evict her from the apartment she and Orlando shared as she is forced to fight for her right to be herself.
