Western Illinois University Community Art Program

— The Western Illinois University Community Art Program, hosted by the WIU Department of Art, will be presented on Sundays from Oct. 22 – Nov. 12 at the West Central Illinois Arts Center, in downtown Macomb and at Garwood Hall on the WIU campus.
The free program is for students in first through eighth grades. Classes will be held Oct. 22 and 29 and Nov. 5 and 12 from 1–2:30 p.m. and from 3–4:30 p.m.
• First and second grades – 1-2:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24
Students in this class will embrace the autumn season by exploring new mediums in fall inspired pieces. They will work with materials such as clay, ceramic paint, watercolor and more, as well as create weaved apple orchard basket paintings, ceramic painted pumpkins, festival plates for Thanksgiving tables and scenic fall landscape.
• Third and fourth grades – 1-2:30 p.m. at the West Central Illinois Arts Center
Students in this class will use mix-media approach to create artworks, such as animal bobble heads out of clay and a mix-media bird sculpture. In addition, the children will learn about the habitants where different animals reside. They will also explore different media and create artworks in 3D form.
• Fifth-eighth grades – 3-4:30 p.m. in Garwood Hall 24
Young artists in this class will get to experiment with epoxy in making 3D art projects that all relate to the fall season. They will be using different mediums to create 3D projects. The artists will be making leaf pendants, tree sculpture, scarecrows and a cornucopia.
