Step 1 - Get and install MacTCP

1. Open the Extensions Manager from the Control Panels under the Apple menu
2. Make sure MacTCP is checkmarked in the Extensions section
3. If you do NOT see MacTCP in this list, you may need to install it from your system disks/CD-ROM
4. NOTE: Older Macintoshes were not sold with MacTCP. If you have an older Macintosh, please contact us at the address/phone at the bottom of this page.

Step 2 - Configure MacTCP

1. Open MacTCP under the Apple -> Control Panels menu.
2. Click to select the PPP icon (looks kind of like a telephone)
3. Press the More... button
4. Mark Obtain Address: Manually
   

   Note: Setting this to 'Manually' unlocks fields so you can change them. Make sure to set this back to 'Server' before pressing the 'OK' button (Step 6 below).

5. Set the following values (as shown in the image below)
   • IP Address: Class C Address
   • Gateway Address: 64.6.15.254
   • Domain Name Server Information:

     IP Address
     64.6.15.16    
     64.6.15.2
     

6. Mark Obtain Address: Server
7. Press the OK button
8. Close the MacTCP dialog box

Step 3 - Get and install Mac PPP

1. Download MacPPP 2.2.0 from: http://homepage.macomb.com/support/connections/MacTCP/MacPPP_2.2.0a.sit
2. Use StuffIt! to unarchive the downloaded archive file (unless your browser has done this for you already)
3. From the MacPPP 2.2.0 folder:
   1. Copy the PPP extension into the System Folder:Extensions folder
   2. Copy the Config PPP control panel into the System Folder:Control Panels folder
   3. Copy the PPP Preferences file into the System Folder:Preferences folder

Step 4 - Verify modem settings for MacPPP

1. Select Config PPP from the Apple -> Control Panels menu
2. Make sure macomb.com is selected as the POP:
3. Make sure Port Name is set to the port where your modem is connected (Probably the Modem Port)
4. Press the Config... button.
5. Check the Port Speed
   1. If your modem is a 14,400 modem set it to 57600
   2. If your modem is a 28,800 or 33,600 modem set it to 115200
   3. Otherwise set it to the speed of your modem
6. Make sure Flow Control is set to CTS & RTS (DTR)
7. Make sure the Phone num is set to 837-9002
   
8. If your phone line has Call Waiting, set the Phone num field to 70#,837-9002

Step 5 - Zero out the Connect Script

1. Press the Connect Script... button
2. The Wait timeout is unimportant
3. Make sure all the Out radio buttons are selected
4. Delete any/all text in the boxes
5. Make sure none of the CR checkboxes are marked
6. Press the OK button

Step 6 - Enter username and password

1. Press the Authentication... button
2. Enter your login/username into the Auth. ID: field
3. Enter your password into the Password: field
4. Press the OK button
5. Press the Done button
6. Close the Config PPP control panel

Step 7 - Restart your Macintosh

1. Save your work in all running applicatios
2. Select Finder from the Mac-Icon Menu (rightmost Icon on menu bar)
3. Select Restart from the Special Menu

Step 8 - Connect to the Internet via macomb.com

1. Select Config PPP from the Apple -> Control Panels menu
2. Make sure macomb.com is selected in the POP: field.
3. Press the Open button.
4. Wait for your Macintosh to dial macomb.com and connect.
5. After connecting, it will bring up a dialog box informing you your login succeeded. Press the OK button.
6. Notice the icon in the upper left corner of the Config PPP control panel window now says PPP UP
7. You are now part of the Internet. Your Internet applications (Netscape, Eudora, Fetch, etc) should now function properly

Step 9 - To Disconnect

1. When your are ready to disconnect, press the Hard Close button in the Config PPP control panel. It will then close your Internet connection and disconnect from the phone line.
