Step 1 - Get and install MacTCP
- Open the Extensions Manager from the Control Panels under the Apple menu
- Make sure MacTCP is checkmarked in the Extensions section
- If you do NOT see MacTCP in this list, you may need to
install it from your system disks/CD-ROM
- NOTE: Older Macintoshes were not sold with MacTCP. If you have
an older Macintosh, please contact us at the address/phone
at the bottom of this page.
Step 2 - Configure MacTCP

- Open MacTCP under the Apple -> Control Panels menu.
- Click to select the PPP icon (looks kind of like a telephone)
- Press the More... button
- Mark Obtain Address: Manually
Note: Setting this to 'Manually' unlocks fields
so you can change them. Make sure to set this back to
'Server' before pressing the 'OK' button
(Step 6 below).
- Set the following values
(as shown in the image below)
- Mark Obtain Address: Server
- Press the OK button
- Close the MacTCP dialog box
Step 3 - Get and install Mac PPP

- Download MacPPP 2.2.0 from:
http://homepage.macomb.com/support/connections/MacTCP/MacPPP_2.2.0a.sit
- Use StuffIt! to unarchive the downloaded archive file
(unless your browser has done this for you already)
- From the MacPPP 2.2.0 folder:
- Copy the PPP extension into the
System Folder:Extensions folder
- Copy the Config PPP control panel into the
System Folder:Control Panels folder
- Copy the PPP Preferences file into the
System Folder:Preferences folder
Step 4 - Verify modem settings for MacPPP

- Select Config PPP from the Apple -> Control Panels menu
- Make sure macomb.com is selected as the POP:
- Make sure Port Name is set to the port where your modem
is connected (Probably the Modem Port)
- Press the Config... button.
- Check the Port Speed
- If your modem is a 14,400 modem set it to 57600
- If your modem is a 28,800 or 33,600 modem set it to 115200
- Otherwise set it to the speed of your modem
- Make sure Flow Control is set to CTS & RTS (DTR)
- Make sure the Phone num is set to 837-9002
- If your phone line has Call Waiting, set the
Phone num field to 70#,837-9002

Step 5 - Zero out the Connect Script
- Press the Connect Script... button
- The Wait timeout is unimportant
- Make sure all the Out radio buttons are selected
- Delete any/all text in the boxes
- Make sure none of the CR checkboxes are marked
- Press the OK button
Step 6 - Enter username and password

- Press the Authentication... button
- Enter your login/username into the Auth. ID: field
- Enter your password into the Password: field
- Press the OK button
- Press the Done button
- Close the Config PPP control panel
Step 7 - Restart your Macintosh
- Save your work in all running applicatios
- Select Finder from the Mac-Icon Menu (rightmost Icon on menu bar)
- Select Restart from the Special Menu
Step 8 - Connect to the Internet via macomb.com
- Select Config PPP from the Apple -> Control Panels menu
- Make sure macomb.com is selected in the POP: field.
- Press the Open button.
- Wait for your Macintosh to dial macomb.com and
connect.
- After connecting, it will bring up a dialog box informing you
your login succeeded. Press the OK button.
- Notice the icon in the upper left corner of the Config PPP
control panel window now says PPP UP
- You are now part of the Internet. Your Internet applications
(Netscape, Eudora, Fetch, etc) should now function properly
Step 9 - To Disconnect
- When your are ready to disconnect,
press the Hard Close button in the
Config PPP control panel. It will then close your
Internet connection and disconnect from the phone line.
